UNDERSCORE

AN INTERACTIVE DIGITAL EXPERIMENT BY LISA MATTOCKS + LOWRI EVANS WITH GUEST POET MOLLY TWOMEY.

AN INTERACTIVE DIGITAL EXPERIMENT BY LISA MATTOCKS + LOWRI EVANS WITH GUEST POET MOLLY TWOMEY.

Underscore is an interactive digital experiment that disrupts the silent power structures of public space through live writing and projection of personal statements with real-time observations.

Set against the backdrop of the Emmeline Pankhurst statue in St Peter’s Square, Manchester, artists Lisa Mattocks, Lowri Evans and poet Molly Twomey will invite three generations of women to go undercover and live report on everything they see and hear as the sky turns black. They’ll ask and answer questions about what keeps them awake at night, what they wished they’d said and what it all means, turning the tables on who gets to be seen and who gets to watch.

Join us in person and online on Friday 9th June from 9.30pm in a moment of mass observation, of reclaiming space, and taking back the night.

Free of charge, no booking required: gather in St Peter’s Square between 9.30pm and midnight. Underscore is supported by Arts Council England. In partnership with Poetry Ireland through one of their International Residencies. With thanks to Manchester City Council events team, Central Library, Manchester Metropolitan University Poetry Library, Manchester Histories, HOME & John McAuliffe, University of Manchester.
